Many E1 kitchens sit in a rear closet wing built in solid brick, sometimes a single skin, with a thin roof and a north-facing wall. They are cold in winter, they suffer condensation on the coldest walls, and no amount of new cabinetry changes that. The moment to fix it is while the room is stripped, because insulating a wall that already has units against it means taking the kitchen out again. Headroom and floor area are both affected, so the build-up is agreed before the layout is drawn.
The usual approach is insulated plasterboard to the coldest walls, insulation at roof level where there is space, and careful attention to the junctions so no cold bridge is left at a corner or a reveal. Ventilation goes with it, since a better sealed room needs the extract to work properly. Done together, the room stops being the coldest in the house, and it takes far less heat to keep it comfortable in an E1 terrace.
