Where the waste actually goes in an older house here
Not always where a floor plan suggests. Land to the east of Moor Park, along the railway line, lies within Flood Zone 3, and the Batchworth Neighbourhood Plan notes this is made worse by surface water flooding linked to hard surfaces and drainage capacity.
Below ground, a bathroom drains upward or it does not drain. That means a pumped waste with a sealed chamber, a non return valve and accessible maintenance, plus tanking to walls and floor before any board or tile goes on. Ventilation has to be mechanical and ducted to outside air. We settle all of it at design stage, because retrofitting a pump route into a finished basement means taking the finishes off again.
