Where the run cannot follow the joists, the answer is a raised plinth, a boxed duct at the wall, or a shallower trap and a macerator-free layout that keeps the stack close. If a joist has already been butchered by a previous installation, we double it up or replace it. In a W6 terrace with lath and plaster ceilings below, that is worth doing properly.
