A cowl or a grille is an external alteration, so on a visible elevation it is worth positioning it discreetly and choosing a terminal that suits the brickwork rather than bolting a plastic vent to the front of the house. Drainage for a relocated sink or a utility beyond the kitchen has to keep its fall back to the stack, which on a wide plan sometimes means a new gully and connection rather than a longer pipe.
