The repair is proper carpentry rather than filler. New timbers are let in to carry the boards across the opening, the levels are checked against the existing floor rather than assumed, and reclaimed boards of the same width go back so nothing telegraphs through a rug or a wood finish later. If the room is getting a new floor anyway, tell us at survey, because the make up under a fitted carpet, an engineered board and tile all differ, and the levels are far simpler to set right once than to correct twice.
